Case study: Philadelphia bus map signs
Bus transportation signage map program developed for the Center City District, an organization that coordinates development in downtown Philadelphia. This signage program consisted of two signs to help transit users navigate the SEPTA public bus system to attractions in Philadelphia.
The first sign is a 6" x 30" map sign attached to bus shelter poles. This map was an early iteration of the signage map program. Images of Walk!Philadelphia signs are shown at the bottom to help familiarize visitors with a parent pedestrian wayfinding sign system used in the downtown area. Development of the map’s form required sensitivity to ADA guidelines for object projection and space limitations for placement on narrow bus shelter poles.
The second sign is a 24" x 32" map graphic also mounted on transit shelter panels. Route and connection information are provided along with a location directory of key cultural attractions in Center City Philadelphia.
