Definition of Interaction design

Interaction design is a practice of planning & shaping a product through a behavioral, experiential perspective. Interaction designers craft product forms based on how users want to act with them in order to achieve their goals. In other words, interaction designers translate the desired role of a product into a form that ensures the direct and efficient connection between need and action.

Recently interaction design has become confused with "web design." The term has actually had a longer history in the physical product design field, relating to the design of physical product forms. As a more general term, it best remains non-synonymous to any one design medium.
